Overhead Temporary Power Pole

This is the classic construction power pole. We set an overhead temporary service where your utility can reach it, so your electrician and crew have weatherproof power for tools, lights, and equipment right where the work is happening. It’s the go-to setup for new homes, ADUs, and most residential job sites.

Underground Temporary Power

Where the utility feed runs underground, as it often does in newer subdivisions and commercial parks, we provide an underground temporary power setup instead of an overhead pole. Keeping lines out of the air also keeps them clear of cranes, boom lifts, pump trucks, and deliveries.

100 Amp or 200 Amp Service

Choose the capacity that fits your site. 100 amp temporary power handles many residential builds running hand tools and small equipment. 200 amp service gives you room for bigger homes, several trades working at once, welders, and site trailers with heating and air conditioning.

Three-Phase Transformers

What Is Temporary Power?

Temporary power, also called temp power, a construction power pole, or temporary electrical service, is a short-term electrical service that runs a job site until the building’s permanent service is energized. The temporary pole or pedestal holds the meter socket, the main breaker, and the outlets. Once the setup passes inspection, your utility sets the meter. When permanent power is live, the temporary system comes out.

The California Electrical Code, which is based on Article 590 of the National Electrical Code, treats this kind of wiring as strictly temporary. It is allowed for as long as construction lasts and has to be removed once the work is done. The code also requires GFCI protection on receptacles used for construction work. A properly built temporary service keeps your crew safe, your inspector satisfied, and your schedule on track.

How Temporary Power Works

Tell us about your site. Give us the address, the amperage you need, whether you want overhead or underground service, single or three-phase power, and your start date.
Permit and utility request. Temporary electrical service usually needs a permit from your city or county building department and a service request with your utility: SCE, PG&E, LADWP, or a city utility such as Pasadena Water and Power, Burbank Water and Power, or Glendale Water & Power.
Setup. JW sets up your temporary power equipment in the agreed location on site.
Inspection and meter set. The building department inspects the setup and sends a clearance to the utility, and then the utility sets the meter.
Removal. When your permanent power is on, we come back and remove the temporary equipment.
